Fulfill your dream of owning your own four walls with a solid house
Anyone who decides against paying rent and instead opts for their own home is spoiled for choice: there are countless house types, styles and shapes to examine in order to find out what the perfect house should look like for their own wishes and needs. Before that, however, an important decision must be made: should the future home be a prefabricated house with a lightweight or post-and-beam construction, for example, or a solid house?
When we talk about a solid house, we usually mean the so-called solid construction method. In contrast to post-and-beam construction, this is characterized by the fact that solid building materials such as brickwork or concrete are used to build walls and ceilings. All elements that enclose rooms play a key role in terms of statics.
Advantages of solid houses
As the name implies, solid houses are built solidly. This means that the construction is designed for stability and durability. There are a variety of suitable solid building materials to choose from. One solid building material has proven particularly effective: expanded clay. Expanded clay combines the advantages of prefabricated construction (short construction time, short drying time, flexibility) with solid construction (value retention, sound insulation, high thermal energy buffering capacity of the walls) in an excellent way. Expanded clay is the starting material for storey-high prefabricated expanded clay walls.
Solid houses offer a pleasant living environment due to their strong walls: in summer they are pleasantly cool, in winter they are nice and warm. If built correctly, they also have good heat circulation and are very well soundproofed. Incidentally, solid houses are also more resistant to fire or water damage than lightweight houses and, due to their high weight, they are also sound-absorbing.
types of solid houses
The types of solid houses are as varied and diverse as the providers. Future builders have to make several decisions regarding the type of solid house.
Many questions suddenly arise: Should the house be a stand-alone house or a multi-family or semi-detached house? Should it be a terraced house or at most an end-of-terrace house? And in what style should the house be built in general?
Before deciding on a model, prospective builders should first consider their current and future needs. After all, the new home should really be a home in the truest sense of the word - and in most cases for the next few decades.
The classic: the single-family home
The classic among the types of solid houses is the detached single-family house. As the name suggests, this type of construction offers enough space for a family. It is also the most individual way to build a house: Neighboring houses are located on adjacent plots of land, but do not border directly on the house, so there are hardly any limits to the design. Single-family houses are usually accessible from all sides, which leaves enough space for a balcony, terrace or winter garden.
Single-family homes can be built in a variety of styles. How about a classic two-story home with lots of glass and light? Or would you prefer a bungalow?
The semi-detached house
Although a semi-detached house does not offer the same level of independence and freedom as a single-family home, this type of solid house is still very popular. There are several reasons for this. The first reason is a very pragmatic one: a semi-detached house does not cost quite as much as a single-family house built using solid construction. This is because one side of the semi-detached house borders on the other half of the semi-detached house. On the other hand, the plot is smaller and therefore cheaper. Secondly, many builders also use the semi-detached house to be closer to their family. It is not uncommon for one part of the family to move into one half of the semi-detached house and another part into the other. This way, everyone has their own space, but can also quickly get to their dear relatives.
Energy Efficiency of Solid Houses
The topic of energy efficiency in connection with the keywords sustainability and ecological responsibility has become increasingly important in recent years, and not only in house building. More and more builders are realizing that energy-efficient building and living not only has a positive effect on the environment, but also on health and money. Energy efficiency begins with the actual building of the house: those who use natural building materials are likely to have a more pleasant living environment and are also protecting the environment. A modern, energy-efficient construction method, e.g. with a heat pump heating system, also has a noticeable effect on living in a property: the maintenance costs are significantly lower than for a property of conventional construction.
